Why are we men so scared? (PART 1)

In observations, teaching & education, Uncategorized on June 15, 2010 at 8:51 pm

It’s almost time for my class on identity, and I am a little worried. The topic of the day is sexual orientation. We’re reading a mixture of lighter and heavier toned pieces, but after last week’s discussion of gender when one of the guys yelled out, “I’m not reading this shit,” we’ll see how things work out tonight.

One of the questions I will be asking (it’s not my own; it’s from Richard Rodriguez’ essay, “The Heresexual Dilemna”) is why gay bashing always seems to be a male story. I think it’s a good question and it goes to why my student reacted as he did to a piece on hermaphrodites. Let’s see how he reacts tonight.

I’ll keep you posted.
