Rick Moody: The Four Fingers of Death – Bookworm on KCRW

In writers & books on October 25, 2010 at 11:05 pm

I just discovered Rick Moody‘s story collection, Demonology, and then I heard he was on KCRW‘s show, Bookworm. There’s a lot of interesting stuff, but one thing I really found interesting was a remark Moody makes about the divide between high art and low art not existing anymore. Actually, he seems to think that in literature, the few people who are holding on to that divide are the naturalists/realists, as in the Iowa Workshop, by which I think he means, a certain type of MFA-schooled writing that some refer to as The New Yorker story. I’d love to hear more about this since I’ve been thinking a lot about the kind of fiction that gets accolades and the type that doesn’t. Anyway, here’s Moody in his own words. Enjoy!!
