latinos for reform… a big joke if it weren’t so sad!

In observations on October 31, 2010 at 11:39 am

There’s an ad going around made by a group that calls itself Latinos for Reform. The sad thing…no, scratch that, the horrible thing is that the group seems to be a front for some GOP candidates. The goal, as you’ll see from the video above, is to depress the Latino vote this election since Latinos tend to vote Democrat. I don’t care if you’re blue or red (though I’d prefer blue), but the idea that a political group is trying to get a segment of our society to auto-disenfranchise is despicable and dastardly. Yes, that’s right. I am using the word, dastardly–a word last used by Yosemite Sam. But so be it!! Political commercials can try to manipulate us. That’s just part of the process, but an ad that encourages non-participation is un-democratic and, yes, I’m going to say it, un-American.

(If you’re interested in reading further about this ad, look at this NY Times article. Also, the LA Times has done some good pieces, see this editorial.)
